She begins applying for tenure in 2008, but the provost and departmental faculty deny her application. She appeals the denial of tenure to the faculty senate, but they agree with the earlier decision to deny. This means that she will no longer be a professor the following year. She asks a fellow biology professor, Dr. M, to change her recommendation. She also “bugs” other faculty members for assistance in her quest for tenure. She tries to speak with the provost and president, but they refuse to see her. Dr. M says that she is very agitated about the denial of tenure, more so than most other professors who are denied tenure. She files a complaint and tells Dr. M that “her life [is] over” and “that she felt like she should just kill herself”. Even after the denial decision was final, Bishop continues to ask Dr. M for help in reversing the decision.
