Authorities searching Carpenter’s apartment found a book titled “Ceremonial Violence: A Psychological Explanation of School Shootings” and handwritten notes calling the Columbine shooters heroes and explaining that Carpenter wanted to follow in their footsteps, the affidavit says. According to the New Haven Register, the journal contained the following statements: “I can’t even stop thinking about Columbine and Eric and Dylan,” Carpenter allegedly wrote in a spiral notebook police seized. “I don’t know how but I miss Eric and Dylan. I never knew them but I miss them. I went though everything they went through and I wanna follow in their footsteps.”“If they were still alive today and didn’t kill themselves, I would go find them and hug them and tell them how much I love them. That’s what nobody did and that’s how they ended up this way and why they shoot up their school and yet people are still so rude and nasty and there’s still bullying going on and it’s getting worse. I mean HELLO PEOPLE OPEN YOUR (expletive) EYES.” In the notebook, Carpenter wrote that the Sandy Hook school shooting was “uncalled for” and that “high schoolers are the ones who deserve to get shot.” She wrote "They're [expletive] heartless, trust me I know, they're the reason why I started cutting myself and they're the reason why I am going to end up shooting a school too." She included a list of weapons she would need to carry out the attack, according to NBC Connecticut. Carpenter also claims that she and Thulin would carry out the attacks in two or three years, once they both turned 21, so that it would be easier to obtain guns.
