Brazill’s parents are divorced, and he does not have a close relationship with his father. His mother has numerous abusive partners, and Brazill witnesses domestic abuse both received by and perpetrated by his mother. He lives with his grandparents for a few years because his home with his mother is unfit. His mother has another child when Brazill is eleven and a half, and he does not respond well. His mother is also diagnosed with breast cancer. Brazill possibly witnesses his mother point or fire a gun at somebody, according to Dr. Langman.
