Answer Chanthabouly recalls voices and sees things that are not there. Because of these voices and sights, he believes he is a gang member and his imaginary voices are fellow gangsters. He stops taking his medicine, and stops sleeping. The voices tell him to “watch his back,” and he sees “images of people with knives.” The night before the attack, Chanthabouly says that he “[hears] all these voices saying they was gonna kill me. I was seeing a gun pointed at me. They said they was gonna do it in the schoolyard, gonna stab me so no gunshots and no hit.” According to school officials, Chanthabouly openly and continually exhibits this erratic behavior at school. According to his mother, she informs school nurses and counselors that her son suffers from schizophrenia, however, they deny she ever told them. Neither the vice principal or head of security are informed of the paranoid schizophrenia. Chathabouly allegedly frequents the nurse’s office multiple times a week when he needs a safe space, but abruptly stops for an unknown reason.
