The morning of August 30th, 2006, Castillo shoots and kills his father in their home. When asked why, he states, “to put him out of misery.” He leaves a note saying he is not proud of his actions and that he is crazy. He covers his father’s body with a sheet. He chose this date because it was the anniversary of hurricane Katrina and the birthday of Kip Kinkel, who killed his parents and then killed two students in a school shooting in 1998.
