Amy Bishop at age 21 grabs her father’s shotgun and says to her mom and brother that she has a shell in the gun and does not know how to unload it. Her mother tells her not to point the gun at anybody, however Amy turns toward her brother and fires the gun. She then runs out of the house with the shotgun where she is apprehended by police. Amy tells police that her family had an argument earlier in the day. She says additionally that she was afraid of being robbed, which is why she was trying to learn how to load the shotgun. Amy tells police that she first accidentally fires a shot in her room, before going downstairs and accidentally firing at her brother, however, her mom reports not hearing the first shot in the room. This case is originally ruled an accident, but has since been reopened.
