When he arrives at the school, he calmly walks into the office and asks to speak to Vicki Kaspar, the woman who just suspended him. He shows no signs of agitation. Dr. Langman later refers to this as impression management. (Butler appears calm and collected while he deceives another person). They speak for four minutes, and then Butler shoots Vicki Kaspar. He exits the office and shoots the principal, and tries to shoot the school security officer, but he ducks out of the way. Butler then shoots at a custodian, but the bullets miss and hit the wall. A nurse is wounded with debris from the wall as a result.
