At some point in the day, the assistant principal receives information that Bartley is suspected of having a gun in his pocket. He then sends the School Resource Officer to take Bartley out of class. The assistant principal asks the SRO to ask Bartley why he was absent from his first and second period classes. The SRO is unarmed and cannot conduct a search of Bartley’s person immediately, according to school policy. Before the SRO enters the room, Bartley snorts another crushed Valium pill.
