Castillo buys a shotgun at Walmart. He dresses himself in his national guard uniform and takes out his shotgun, but father stops his suicide attempt. Police arrest Castillo and then involuntarily commit him to a hospital. Castillo thinks this is a sign that God wants him to be alive to be able to go through with his school attack. He is hospitalized for 7 days after the attempted suicide, and is then released when staff thinks he is no longer suicidal. He receives outpatient therapy and is discharged from the national guard, but because of a dispute between clinics where he is a patient, he receives no further treatment or medication.
